Mission and Philosophy

The Mission of St. Catherine of Siena Academy is to form young women to be centered on the redemptive act of Christ by offering an educational experience that will inspire their hearts and minds to always seek the Truth that is Jesus. The Academy’s rigorous college-preparatory curriculum and Christian student life are rooted in the theology and philosophy of Blessed John Paul II and his understanding of the “Feminine Genius.” This curriculum will cultivate within students an ardent desire to know God and to seek His will in discovering their vocation as women. The women of St. Catherine’s Academy will look to St. Catherine of Siena as their model, becoming stewards of the Catholic faith and sharing with the world their knowledge of God’s love for all.

The educational philosophy of St. Catherine’s is rooted in the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. The integral formation of the human person, in light of the Truth that is Jesus Christ, is the core principle of St. Catherine’s pedagogy of education. According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the dignity of the human person is rooted in the creation of each person in the image and likeness of God. By her deliberate actions, a young woman does, or does not, conform to the good promised by God and attested by moral conscience. A young woman is responsible for making her intellectual life and spiritual life into the means of her interior growth. With the help of grace she will grow in virtue and avoid sin, striving to attain the perfection of charity. (adapted from Catechism of the Catholic Church #1700).

St. Catherine’s will teach each student to understand and embrace the Truth through the integral formation of each student by educating her intellect, teaching her the Catholic faith, and helping her to understand her identity as a daughter of God. St. Catherine's will provide daily opportunities for her to grow in her love of God and others so as to form her conscience and train her will, by teaching her to be a woman of faith, a woman of grace, a woman of charity, and a woman of hope.

St. Catherine’s pedagogy of integral formation will be based on three pillars of spiritual growth: stewardship, discipleship, and apostleship. St. Catherine of Siena Academy will teach a young woman the beauty of her identity as God’s creation and the importance of her role as a steward of the gifts that God has entrusted to her. Once a student understands her nature as God’s creation, she will learn what it means to be a disciple of Christ, committed to growing in her knowledge of God and developing an intimate personal relationship with Him. St. Catherine of Siena Academy will then prepare young women to be apostles of Christ, living the gospel message as God’s instruments in every circumstance of their secular lives. In this way, St. Catherine’s graduates will go out into the world and transform the culture by knowing the Truth, teaching the Truth, and defending the Truth.
