| | | | | | | A deep and joyful faith life is at the heart of a SCA education. Prayer will be integrated throughout the school day, including before and after classes, sporting events, field trips and meetings. A school-wide Mass will be celebrated once a week, and daily Mass will be available before classes begin each day for those who wish to attend. Confession will be offered at least once a week to all students. Annual seminars, retreats, days of recollection and other opportunities to grow in faith will be offered to students at every grade level. The Catholic faith will be integrated in every course by referring to relevant theological principles and Catholic traditions. SCA aims to form young women on fire with the love of God, confident in their dignity and vocation as women, and equipped to bring the good news of the gospel into the family, the workplace, and every aspect of our culture.
Teachers at SCA will be encouraged to instruct their students using a combination of lecture style and the Socratic method. Using the Socratic method, teachers will engage students in discourse by asking questions, analyzing answers and building on each subsequent question, thus enabling students to draw their own conclusions. Instead of only listening passively to the teacher's thoughts, the student will be required to form and express her own thoughts. Ideas that a student works out of herself are much more likely to remain with her than ideas that are received solely through lecture instruction.
Each year the curriculum at SCA will focus on a particular theme, which students will explore from a variety of angles in different courses. These will include:
- Grade 9 Our Identity in Christ
- Grade 10 The Dignity and Vocation of Women
- Grade 11 The Integration of Faith and Reason
- Grade 12 Women in the Culture
