Convocation 2025
Convocation 2025 | A Prayerful Beginning to the School Year
On Tuesday, August 12, the St. Catherine of Siena Academy community gathered for one of our most meaningful traditions: Convocation.
Though convocation is a tradition more often found at colleges or universities, at SCA it holds a special place in the rhythm of our year. In the chapel, students and faculty came together to pray, to be introduced as a community, and to hear from President Ms. Hehs about the “symbol” chosen to guide us through the year.
Prayers for Every Class
During this gathering, each class was entrusted to God’s care with the words of our patroness, St. Catherine of Siena:
- Freshmen (Class of 2028): We prayed that they remain open to new friendships. Inspired by St. Catherine’s reminder that “in every face is the face of God and every person is respected and loved by God,” our ninth graders were invited to see Jesus in those they meet and to grow in community.
- Sophomores (Class of 2027): We prayed that they deepen their love for God, themselves, and others. Echoing St. Catherine’s words, “Everything comes from love. All is ordained for the salvation of man,” the tenth graders were called to let their accomplishments reflect God’s love.
- Juniors (Class of 2026): We prayed for the gifts of the Holy Spirit to strengthen them as leaders. St. Catherine’s teaching that “All should be my minister in distributing the graces and gifts they are given” reminded our eleventh graders to serve generously, using their talents in word and action.
- Seniors (Class of 2025): We prayed for courage and steadfast faith. With the words, “Proclaim the truth and [do] not be silent through fear,” our twelfth graders were encouraged to let their final year shine as a witness to their faith, preparing them to set the world on fire with God’s love.
Living the Parable of the Pencil
At the conclusion of Convocation, Ms. Hehs shared the SCA edition of the Parable of the Pencil. Her message reminded our young women that just as a pencil is shaped and guided by the hand of an artist, so too are they held and guided by God. Each student received a small locker reminder with the words:
“God is writing your story. Let Him use you well.”
This message will serve as a daily encouragement for our students to embrace challenges, rely on God’s grace, and leave their mark on the world for His glory.
As we begin this academic year, we pray that every member of our SCA community may walk in faith, courage, and sisterhood, carrying the lessons of Convocation into all they do.
