On February 11, 2024, we observe the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, a time to acknowledge the remarkable achievements of the SCA Constellations, our all-girls high school robotics team from St. Catherine of Siena Academy.

2019 marked their Rookie Season with FIRST Robotics Competition, the pinnacle of the FIRST Robotics organization. The mission of FIRST is to inspire young people to become science and technology leaders through engaging, mentor-based programs that develop science, engineering, and technology skills.

The SCA Constellations exemplify innovation and determination, disproving stereotypes and demonstrating that girls belong in STEM fields. They are preparing for their big Robot Reveal and two upcoming competitions:

  • Robot Reveal: February 22, 2024, from 6-8 PM at their workshop
  • Robotics Belleville Competition from March 7-9
  • Robotics Grand Rapids Competition from March 21-23

These competitions provide a platform for teams to showcase their creativity, technical expertise, and teamwork. This year's theme, CRESCENDOSM, presented by Haas, encourages participants to push the boundaries of innovation.

Guided by coach Katie Brandt and the expertise of their mentors, the SCA Constellations have invested countless hours into refining their robot and strategies. Using their feminine genius to solve the problems CRESCENDO presents, they have created a dynamic robot that reflects their team spirit and image.

However, their journey isn't just about winning; it encompasses the essence of sisterhood at SCA. At the core of our educational philosophy lie the principles of intellect, faith, leadership, sisterhood, and community. The FIRST program nurtures well-rounded life skills, including self-confidence, communication, and leadership—attributes that the women of SCA strive to embody daily. The SCA Constellations are empowering each other and young women worldwide to pursue their passions and careers in STEM fields.

As we celebrate this day, let's applaud the achievements of the SCA Constellations and all women and girls who are driving innovation in STEM fields. We hope their dedication and resilience will inspire generations to come!
