We are happy to share that four of our talented students from St. Catherine of Siena Academy have been recognized as winners in the 10th Annual Live It. Show It. Share It. Scholarship Contest, sponsored by Alliance Catholic Credit Union!

On Thursday, January 29, 2026, SCA was represented by members of the Executive Council and this year’s contest winners, along with Ms. Brandt, at the annual Catholic Schools Week Mass at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Detroit.

Congratulations to our Winners

Four of our students were among the 10 scholarship recipients selected across the Archdiocese of Detroit.

  • Josephine Conners, Sophomore – $3,000
  • Mary DiFranco, Freshman – $2,000
  • Veronica DiFranco, Junior – $2,000
  • Genevieve Parnin, Sophomore – $5,000

This scholarship invites students in grades 8–11 to visit one of the Archdiocese of Detroit’s twelve local pilgrimage sites, perform an ACTION activity—Works of Devotion, Works of Mercy, or Works of Penance—and reflect on their experience. Winners were chosen based on their reflections and a short interview with a panel of representatives from Alliance Catholic Credit Union, the Archdiocese, and other Catholic organizations.

Mary DiFranco – Freshman, Grade 9

Pilgrimage Site: Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Chapel, Madonna University

Action: Work of Devotion – 33-day consecration to Mary

"I felt a deep connection to our Blessed Mother, who inspires me to emulate her life. The chapel’s beauty, combined with the loving presence of the Franciscan nuns, created a perfect environment for reflection. This experience strengthened my trust in God’s plan for my life."

Dream Pilgrimage: Nazareth – to walk where Mary grew up and deepen my faith in her example of humility and obedience.

Josephine Conners – Sophomore, Grade 10

Pilgrimage Site: Shrine of St. Joseph, Detroit

Action: Works of Mercy – Donation to the poor

"Visiting the Shrine allowed me to honor St. Joseph and reflect on his intercession in my life, especially in the healing of my younger brother, Teddy. I learned the power of meekness, humility, and trusting the saints’ guidance."

Dream Pilgrimage: Lourdes – to witness the miracles that inspired my family and deepen my devotion to Our Lady.

Genevieve Parnin – Sophomore, Grade 10

Pilgrimage Site: Shrine of the Little Flower, Royal Oak

Action: Works of Penance – Attending Michigan March for Life

"Experiencing Mass at the Shrine and venerating Saint Thérèse’s relics with my family inspired me. Participating in the March for Life reminded me that the pro-life movement is strong, and I felt connected to a community committed to defending life."

Dream Pilgrimage: Sagrada Família, Barcelona – a reminder that faith is a lifelong journey, supported by the Holy Family.

Veronica DiFranco – Junior, Grade 11

Pilgrimage Site: Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Chapel, Madonna University

Action: Work of Penance – Fasting from snacks for a week

"The peaceful environment of the chapel allowed me to focus fully on God. Giving up snacking helped me redirect my reliance to Him, embracing Saint Teresa of Avila’s motto, 'God alone suffices.'"

Dream Pilgrimage: Jerusalem – to walk where Jesus lived, taught, and sacrificed, deepening my understanding of His life and mission.
